Global Citizens

When you consider what the role of schools is in this day and age it is hard to ignore that we are preparing our learners for a world that is rapidly shrinking.  The internet, driven by social media enables our children to interact with people from all around the world.  Future jobs for our learners will require them to have empathy for a wide range of cultures and languages.

I believe it is also essential that we help our learners build a clear sense of their own identity.  Without this how can we develop an empathy with others?

Last week we were fortunate to be able to hold sessions investigating Samoan Language and Culture. The students motivation and eagerness was awesome to see.  Next week our investigation of Matariki will begin with an expert visiting the school to work with all staff.
One of the absolute strengths of Silverdale Normal School is the wide range of cultures we have at the school!  Every day our students interact with such a diverse group of boys and girls!

Are you a member of our community who would like to provide experiences for our learners?  We would love to speak to you!
